Two first-year students on the Leeds College of Art Fashion Degree Programme have won a trip to China with their innovative designs that combine elements of Chinese and Western culture.

Willow Cicale-Brown and Brooke Kelsall impressed the judges with the design concepts they produced in response to a brief set by the Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds and Leeds College of Art. This is the final task in a module that encourages professional development and cross-cultural understanding through a series of workshops on Chinese language and culture. It is hoped that the international perspective gained from these classes will provide all students with an edge when they begin their careers in the global fashion industry.

Willow and Brooke  will be offered places on the Business Confucius Institute China camp in April 2018, where they will have the opportunity to soak up the culture and try out their new-found language skills.

Winners for 2017 are:

Communication pathway

Emanuelle Piarulli was awarded the prize for Strength of Concept.

Leeds College of Art is a Confucius Classroom affiliated with the Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds.
