University of Leeds contestants to represent the UK in 'Chinese Bridge' finals in China

Two candidates from the University of Leeds will go to China this summer to represent the UK in the final stages of the international 'Chinese Bridge' competition.

The students qualified for the finals based on their performances at the British regional finals on 22nd April 2017 at the Ondaatje Theatre in London. The University of Leeds had four representatives in the competition and received fantastic results, with Gabriel Mayoral Galindo (葛金鹰) and Mark McPhilips (莫马克) both finishing in Second Place.

Hanban UK have now announced that Gabriel and Mark will be among the competitors representing the UK in the finals  in China this summer. The prizes up for grabs include Confucius Institute Scholarships for degree programmes and Chinese language courses in China.

Charlie Bridges (毕天宇) and Shreya Patel (花雪丫), who were awarded third place in the UK finals, are also invited to China to watch the competition.

The competition in Changsha this summer will have 130-140 contestants from all over the world demonstrating their Chinese language skills onstage. The “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students is a worldwide language competition organized annually by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). The competition is divided into two parts, the preliminaries abroad and the competitions in China. Over the past 15 years, it has attracted nearly 300 thousand overseas students from over 80 countries to participate, 1500 of whom have travelled to China to cpmete in the semi-finals and grand finals.
